Tell search engines about new pages the moment you publish

When pages change, ask your assistant to tell the search engines. Builders HQ submits the URLs to IndexNow (Bing, Yandex, Seznam, Naver and others), submits sitemaps to Google Search Console and Bing, and checks whether a page made it into Google.

A conversation: someone asks "We just published three pages on example.com. Tell the search engines."; the assistant calls Builders HQ's submit_urls tool and answers with a table (URL, IndexNow, Result). All three URLs were accepted by IndexNow (HTTP 202). Google does not read IndexNow, so I also submitted the sitemap to Search Console; ask me tomorrow to inspect the launch post.
Example data for example.com: your own answer shows your sites. The assistant called submit_urls with urls: [3 URLs on example.com].
The same answer as text

Why it is hard today

IndexNow needs a key file

Each host needs its own key, published at the right address, before any engine accepts a submission.

Every engine has its own form

Bing, Yandex and Google each have a console, a sitemap form and a different idea of a quota.

Google does not use IndexNow

For Google the route is a sitemap and URL Inspection, so a deploy script needs both paths.

How it works

  1. Connect IndexNow on your account page: Builders HQ gives you a key and checks the file on your site. Connect Search Console and Bing for sitemaps.
  2. After a launch or an update, ask your assistant to submit the changed URLs or the sitemap. A dry run (check: true) tests first without sending.
  3. Ask later whether the pages are indexed on Google.

Questions

Does IndexNow work for Google?

No, Google does not take part in IndexNow. Builders HQ submits sitemaps to Google Search Console and inspects URLs there instead.

Can it change anything by mistake?

Only submit_urls, submit_sitemap, remove_sitemap, add_site and remove_site change anything, and they are marked as write tools, so your assistant can ask you before using them. Every other tool only reads.

How many URLs can I submit?

Up to 10,000 URLs per call, the IndexNow limit.
